NPDF DIRECTOR OCCHIPINTI DISCUSSES PREVENTING POLICE SUICIDES ON CBS

MORGANVILLE, NJ February 3rd, 2024:

National Police Defense Foundation Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti was recently featured in a prominent CBS news story about the sudden and unexplained uptick in police suicides in recent years.  Noting that the stressors of the law enforcement profession have made it 54% more likely that police officers may take their own lives as opposed to other professions, Director Occhipinti recognizes that the pressure on law enforcement in general, coupled with having a front row seat to decades of human misery during an officer’s career, often lead to some officers experiencing an emotional overload that can have devastating consequences. Director Occhipinti wishes to remind everyone that the NPDF has a member who is trained in Crisis Intervention to help expand the NPDF’s knowledge and awareness in this area.

Often, simply venting to colleagues after a particularly difficult tour can be helpful, rather than suppressing the stress within.  The NPDF has supported various organization, including Cop 2 Cop to help officers cope with stressful periods. The interview can be seen at:
