On January 7, 2007, the “Safe Cop” reward was posted for slain Paterson (NJ) Police Officer Tyron Franklin who had been shot during a botched robbery attempt at a local fast food restaurant. He was paying for his food when a robber approached him and demanded his money. The shooter also wounded a citizen who attempted to come to Officer Franklin’s assistance. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting and was subsequently arrested due to information provided by an informant. On May 9, 2008, the suspect was convicted of Officer Franklin’s murder and sentenced to 37 years in prison.
