SAFE COP SUPPORT SERVICES FOR DISABLED AND SLAIN OFFICERS: U.S. VIRGIN ISLAND POLICE OFFICER COLVIN GEORGES

On May 26, 2012, U.S. Virgin Islands Police Officer Colvin Georges and his partner was shot after confronting a group of subjects that were loitering near a car wash. They were patrolling that area due to a shooting that had occurred the night before. The Officers returned fire and killed one of the suspects and wounding another. Officer Georges was critically injured in the firefight which left him paralyzed from the neck down. He was airlifted to a Trauma Center in Miami where for four months he remained in critical condition. The NPDF received an emergency call that night from the ATF Miami Special Agent in Charge asking for the assistance of the NPDF in funding travel and lodging expenses for the officer’s daughter of which was approved by the NPDF. On September 29, 2012 Officer Georges had succumbed to his injuries and died.
