NPDF MAKES DONATION TO PURCHASE A POLICE K-9
Morganville, NJ, November 8, 2017: Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti presented a $5,000 “Safe Cop” donation to the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff (Centerville, MD), which will be used towards the purchase of a new Police K-9.
On September 8, 2017, four-year old Queen Anne’s County Sheriff K-9 named “Blek”, a black Malanois/German Shepherd with three years on the job, died during a drug training exercise.
At the press conference, NPDF Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti and Washington-Maryland Delegate Karl Milligan presented Sheriff Gary Hoffman with the $5,000 donation. The Sheriff said “With the incredible donation from the NPDF we are 50% of the way to securing a new K-9 which will help keep drugs off the street and out of the hands of our friends and neighbors”. In addition, “The citizens of Queen Anne’s County deserve an active K-9 unit within my agency to focus on the drug issues that are facing not only our county but our nation as a whole”.
NPDF Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti thanked the Sheriff for those kind words and offered the NPDF’s condolences to his department on the loss of K-9 Officer Blek. He said” The NPDF is honored to make this donation towards the procurement of a police K-9 since they have become a critical element in conducting effective police operations. The 205,000 members and supporters of the NPDF mourn the loss of Queen Anne’s County Sheriff K-9 Blek whose end of watch was 9-8-2017. The donation was made in his memory under the NPDF’s Safe Cop “Save a K-9 Officer program”.
The Safe Cop program is a congressionally recognized law enforcement initiative of the National Police Defense Foundation (NPDF) that posts up a $10,000 cash reward for public information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person who shoots at a law enforcement officer, anywhere in the United States. This program has also been instrumental in providing bullet proof vests to Police K-9’s.
