It is with deep sorrow that the National Police Defense Foundation (NPDF)  mourns the loss of retired NYPD Police Detective, John “Jack” Holder, 81, who served as the NPDF President for twenty-five years before moving to South Carolina.

Jack passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023 alongside his beloved wife, Bonnie Morris Holder and family.

NPDF Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti referred to Jack as a loyal friend for over forty years whose lifelong accomplishments as both a detective and NPDF board member truly distinguished him as a “Cop’s-Cop.”

Jack worked diligently over the years performing humanitarian missions on “Operation Kids” which helped saved the lives of many critically ill children worldwide.

Jack was a highly decorated NYPD Detective who worked on high-profile cases involving organized crime, which he memorialized in his published book, “The Long Road to Gold.”

Jack was also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He is well known to his friends and colleagues for his great sense of humor and for being a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather.

The National Police Defense Foundation will recognize the life of Det. Jack Holder by presenting one of their annual scholarships in his name.
