MORGANVILLE, NEW JERSEY, September 1, 2023: Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti announced the establishment of a National Police Defense Foundation sponsored emergency family support fund dedicated to satisfying the many support services necessary for the treatment of a heroic ATF Special Agent who was severely injured in the line of duty.
Special Agent Carlos Valles was critically injured on August 30th, 2023, during an undercover operation where several violent suspects attempted to rob him at gun point during a drug buy operation. ATF agents apprehended nine (9) suspects who attempted to flee the scene. Six (6) were subsequently charged in connection to the attempted armed robbery of Agent Valles. All have lengthy, violent criminal histories.
Undercover SA Valles went to a residence in the City of New Orleans for the purpose of purchasing Fentanyl. After entering the apartment, several suspects entered the room with guns where they ordered Valles to lie on the ground. Realizing that he was about to be executed, SA Valles escaped by jumping off the apartment’s third floor balcony. He fell three stories, sustaining pernicious injuries. Agent Valles was transported to the hospital where he underwent extensive emergency surgery.
The Valles family is devastated by this incident. They have incurred significant expenses for out of state travel, lodging and associated costs to be with the agent and to provide the moral support he needs during his hospitalization and the long road toward recovery and physical rehabilitation.
The NPDF is announcing the creation of S/A Valles Family Support Fund to provide funds to satisfy the families expenses associated with the Agent’s treatment. The NPDF urges our members and anyone with an interest in law enforcement to make a tax-deductible donation for this worthy cause.
