Honorable Joseph D. Coronato
The National Police Defense Foundation is honored to recognize The Honorable Joseph D. Coronato as its “Prosecutor of the Year” in recognition of his of numerous accomplishments and law enforcement initiatives that he enacted in Ocean County.
- As the chief law enforcement officer in Ocean County, Prosecutor Coronato has earned the respect and admiration of his peers in supporting police and special operations that led to numerous defendant convictions.
- Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato graduated from Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in June 1972; graduated from North Carolina Central University Law School in Durham, North Carolina receiving his Juris Doctor Degree in May 1975
- Was admitted to the New Jersey Bar and the U. S. District Court in 1975
- Washington, D.C. Bar in 1979
- S. Court of Appeals Federal Circuit in 1985
- Practice in U. S. Court Supreme Court in 1991.
- In 1976 Prosecutor Coronato was appointed a Deputy Attorney General and assigned to the Division of Criminal Justice;
- 1981 he was employed as an Assistant Prosecutor at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
- In 1984 Prosecutor Coronato established a private practice in Toms River specializing in civil litigation, municipal government, zoning and planning, estate administration, estate planning, estate litigation, criminal matters, personal injury and real estate.
- He is an active member of the Toms River-Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.
- In 1993 he was named Man of the Year by the Columbia Civic League and Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Toms River-Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.
- The recipient of the Sam Walton Business Leadership Award.
Once in private practice, he became a Municipal Prosecutor in at least 15 towns in Ocean County and has prosecuted at the local, county, state and federal level. On March 22, 2013 he was sworn in as Prosecutor, the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Ocean County, New Jersey.
Prosecutor Coronato lives in Toms River with his wife, Elaine and, has two children.
