SEPTEMBER 11th TERRORIST ATTACK

On September 11, 2001, the Executive Director spearheaded the NPDF response to “Ground Zero” that provided grief counseling, transportation of supplies, meals, emergency housing, and financial assistance to its victims, family members and first responders. These support services were also expanded to cover law enforcement personnel assigned to the Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island where the remains were brought and surrounding security checkpoints. The NPDF provided financial assistance to two Port Authority Police Officers who were buried alive for almost 24 hours so they could pay for childcare, which enabled their spouses to be at the hospital for rehabilitation treatment. The tragedy of these two officers was profiled in the recent motion picture “World Trade Center”.
